Jet-powered missile-drone explodes in a field near Talmaza; Moldova's MFA condemns
17 Aug 2026 · Moldova · Suspected
At 17:37 on 17 August 2026 Moldova's air surveillance detected an aerial object entering on the Cuciurgan–Tiraspol direction; it disappeared from radar near Talmaza (Ștefan Vodă district) and a detonation was recorded about 3 km outside the village, setting vegetation on fire. Police found a crater about 2 metres wide in a cornfield and fragments including a turbojet engine, which they said resembled turbojet-powered drone-missiles but could not yet identify conclusively. Ukraine's Air Force had reported a Russian Banderol flying from Odesa region towards Moldova. Moldova's MFA condemned the incident but did not formally attribute the object to Russia.
Established by. Ministry of Defence, 17 Aug 2026 (army.md): an 'obiect aerian' disappeared near Talmaza and 'a fost înregistrată o deflagrație' about 3 km from the village; 'În urma acesteia, a fost semnalată arderea vegetației.' The release does not name the object's type or origin. Police (via NV): components 'resembled those used in turbojet-powered drone-missiles'. MFA (via Euromaidan Press, English): a 'serious violation of its sovereignty and a threat to public safety'. The Banderol (S8000) identification comes from Ukraine's Air Force and Militarnyi, not from Moldovan authorities; no protest note was found.
Latest. No official Moldovan technical finding on the object's type had been found as of 20 Oct 2026.
