Kyiv, night of 21–22 Oct 2026
Ballistic missiles with cluster warheads over the historic centre · night

Overnight into 22 October Russia fired ballistic and cruise missiles and 210 drones, with Kyiv the main target. The President reported three Iskander-M missiles with cluster warheads; one burst between the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra — a World Heritage property on the List in Danger — and the Holy Presentation Monastery, damaging the monastery, homes, shops and cafés. An ambulance station lost six vehicles; the Museum of Ukrainian Diaspora was damaged; the Southern Bridge damage split the green metro line. In Kyiv a 48-year-old man was killed and 22 people injured (police, 12:21; the city prosecutor's morning count was 24 injured); 2 killed and 34 injured, 5 of them children, in Kyiv and the region (President). Preliminary; no UN statement on this strike yet. In June 2026 the World Heritage Committee recorded significant damage to the Lavra from an earlier Russian attack.
